The graph above shows the growth of general government funding over the last eight years. This area of the budget includes appropriations for some statewide elected officials and interests related to the operation of state government in general. Among the agencies funded through this article of the budget are: the offices of the Governor, Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of State. It also includes the Employees Retirement System which handles the health and retirement benefits of state employees, this Historical Commission, the Preservation Board which maintains state buildings like the Texas Capitol, the Commission on the Arts which makes grants to arts activities around the state.
