The 2008-09 state budget passed by the Texas Legislature in 2007 included almost $168 billion in appropriations covered in the more than 900 page bill. It includes the appropriation for dozens of agencies and hundreds of programs, which are often written about in jargon understood only by insiders. We’ve studied the budget to present you with a clear picture of how the state is spending your money now and how this stacks up to the last 10 - even 20 - years.
